Weigela "Barbara" is a medium-sized ornamental shrub that attracts attention with its large, rounded leaves and bright flowers. The leaves reach a length of about 23 cm and a width of 18 cm, have a creamy-white hue with a dark green edge, are slightly ruffled and dense. The shrub's flowers are pale lavender, about 3 cm in size, appearing from May to June, and sometimes repeat in August-September. The plant differs in medium or slow growth rate; an adult shrub typically reaches a height of 1.5 to 1.7 m and a crown width of about 1.5 m.
"Barbara" prefers sunny locations with well-drained neutral or slightly acidic soil. When grown in warm climatic conditions, the plant requires regular watering, especially during dry periods, as well as fertilization in spring and summer to maintain health and flowering. After the last frost, it is recommended to prune to stimulate the growth of new shoots.
The shrub is frost-hardy and capable of surviving winter well without additional covering. When transplanting in hot weather, it is important to ensure abundant watering, and when planting out from a container, the leaves remain intact. "Barbara" is easily propagated by vegetative methods – cuttings or layering, which makes it convenient for creating living hedges and decorative compositions.
