Description Bedouin
Bedouin F1 Watermelon — an early-maturing hybrid developed by the Dutch seed company Bejo Zaden, characterized by high adaptability and resistance to various climatic conditions. The ripening period is approximately 60 days from transplanting seedlings or 80 days from emergence, allowing for a quick harvest. The plant is strong and vigorous, with robust climbing stems and dense foliage, thriving even at high planting densities and showing tolerance to soil types and adverse weather conditions. The fruit of the Bedouin watermelon has a round-oval shape with a distinctive striped rind resembling a tiger's pattern. The average weight of one fruit ranges from 8 to 12 kg, with a dense, smooth, matte rind of medium thickness — about 13 mm. The flesh is light burgundy or red in color, crisp, juicy, and very sweet, with a high sugar content up to 13.8%. The seeds are small and dark, making the fruit particularly attractive to consumers. Each plant produces 2–3 equally sized fruits, well-protected from excessive ultraviolet radiation and capable of retaining their flavor on the field for a long time after ripening. Bedouin F1 is distinguished by high yield and resistance to fusarium, making it a reliable choice for cultivation both in greenhouses and open fields. Thanks to its early ripening and suitability for dense planting, this hybrid is appropriate for various regions and agrotechnical conditions. The fruits can be consumed fresh or used for pickling and marinating. Harvesting at an early stage of ripeness ensures a storage life of up to 50–60 days, as well as good transportability and marketability.
