Common walnut Yarivs'kyi

The Yarivsky walnut variety is a vigorous tree with a rounded, moderately dense crown, characterized by its low maintenance requirements and good adaptability in various regions of Ukraine and Moldova. This variety was developed and selected at the Transnistrian Experimental Station for Horticulture in 1995 and is also recommended for cultivation in the North Caucasus region. Trees reach a height of about 3 meters, with a spherical-pyramidal crown and a skeletal branch angle of 45-70%, which ensures optimal growth and fruiting.

The fruits of the Yarivsky variety are large and egg-shaped with a slightly ridged surface. Fruit weight varies from 12 to 18.5 grams, with a kernel yield of approximately 53-54%. The kernel is light cream-colored, easily removed, and possesses high flavor qualities. The kernel fat content reaches 69.2%, making the fruits especially valuable for dessert use. Fruit ripening occurs at the end of September or in mid-late season, allowing effective harvest planning.

The Yarivsky variety is characterized by high yield, reaching 140-150 kg per tree in its best fruiting years. It is resistant to winter frosts down to -32 to -34°C and relatively resistant to major diseases of the walnut. The flowering is protandrous, with male flowers blooming first, requiring pollinators such as the Kodrenye, Kogylnicanu, and Chernovitsky 1 varieties. Due to these qualities, the Yarivsky variety is an excellent choice for both personal cultivation and industrial walnut production.
