Shepotyevsky

Shepotyevsky — this is a hazelnut variety distinguished by high stable yield and cold resistance. The tree is low-growing, reaching no more than 5 meters in height, forming a small rounded crown with rather thick medium-length branches. Female flowers bloom in mid-May, later than male flowers, and fruits develop from terminal buds of the previous year's growth. The variety was developed at the Transnistrian Experimental Station of Horticulture in Ukraine and is characterized by good disease resistance, allowing cultivation in various regions of the country. The fruits of the Shepotyevsky hazelnut have an oval shape with a conical taper towards a pointed apex. Nuts are medium to large in size, with thin light-yellow shells that are easily crushed by hand, and thin internal partitions. The kernel is light-colored, straw-like, well-fills the shell, and easily separates from the valves. Kernel yield is 50-53%, which is a high indicator. Fruits ripen at the end of September — beginning of October and retain their taste and market appearance throughout the year. The Shepotyevsky variety is valued for its high taste quality and nutritional value: the kernel contains a significant amount of fats (about 68-71%), proteins (13-16%), sugars, and vitamin C. The tree begins bearing fruit at 5-6 years, and by 7-8 years, yield reaches 9-10.5 kg per tree. Due to its cold resistance, disease resistance, and low maintenance requirements, this variety is suitable for both personal cultivation and industrial production.
