The pea variety «Belotserkovskaya 222» belongs to the spring sowing type «Vica» and was bred at the Lygov Experimental-Selection Station as a result of crossing with variety 60. This is a grain-cutting direction, characterized by medium maturity growth and resistance to lodging with a stem count of 71–81 cm, as well as to shattering. Plant height ranges from 68 to 93 cm; the stem is slightly hairy, the leaves are elongated-oval with a mucronate tip, usually 6–7 pairs of leaflets with a tendril. The flower is large, lilac-purple, while the pods are slightly curved, light-brown, rarely hairy, with 8–10 seeds each.
Dry matter yield ranges from 27.4 to 32.2 c/ha, with maximum figures recorded in the Sverdlovsk region (60 c/ha) and the Chuvash Republic (42.8 c/ha). The mass of 1000 seeds is 72.9 g. The vegetative period from germination to harvesting for feed is 38–45 days, and for seed collection is 82–102 days. Protein content in dry matter reaches 16.4%, providing good protein collection (3.3 c/ha).
The variety demonstrates an above-average level of resistance to diseases: affected by ascochytosis and root rots, moderately by rust, but severely damaged by fruitworms. Thanks to its characteristics, «Belotserkovskaya 222» is suitable for a wide range of agricultural applications, including the production of peas as both feed and grain products, and ensures a stable yield in various climatic conditions.
