The «Vika» variety is a high-yielding spring crop intended for summer sowing and widely used as a grain and fodder plant. It is distinguished by high productivity: grain yield reaches 1,200–1,400 kg/ha under optimal growing conditions, while dry matter can reach up to 46.8 c/ha in the central regions of Russia. Seeds are large, oval, and brown without ornamentation, which ensures good permeability during baking and a stable grain structure.
Key agronomic characteristics include resistance to powdery mildew, septoria, and other leaf diseases. With timely fungicide application, these pathogens do not significantly reduce yield. However, the plant is susceptible to root rots and ascochyta, so it is recommended to use complex fertilizers (NPK) with microelements and adhere to irrigation schedules.
Successful cultivation of «Vika» requires loose, fertile soil with a pH of 6–7. Sowing is usually done once a year, but with proper fertilization and watering, a second sowing is possible. Seeds are recommended for use in the Moscow region and other central regions, where the variety demonstrates medium maturity and high dry matter and seed yield. Due to good adaptability to mechanical harvesting and stable grain structure, «Vika» is suitable for flour production and large products, as well as for grain and fodder use.
