Tulip Surprise Star

Surprise Star: A Triumph Class Benchmark for Quality and Resistance

Choosing the right tulip variety for commercial production often involves balancing aesthetic appeal with durability. Surprise Star does exactly that. As a member of the Triumph class, it features the iconic cup-shaped flower with a striking red and white bicolor pattern that commands attention. Unlike many high-maintenance varieties, this cultivar is bred to hold its form, making it a reliable performer in both professional forcing and outdoor landscape projects.

Agronomic Strengths: Immunity as an Asset

One of the defining features of Surprise Star is its robust health profile. In a competitive market where disease pressure can destroy a crop, this variety offers a significant advantage with built-in genetic resistance to key threats:

• Downy mildew (Peronospora);
• Powdery mildew;
• Cucumber mosaic virus.

This natural resilience minimizes the need for heavy fungicide applications, reducing input costs and simplifying crop management. Its medium height is perfectly optimized for cut flower production, ensuring strong, upright stems that are resistant to lodging.

Why choose Surprise Star?

This variety is tailored for growers who need a predictable, mid-season bloomer to bridge the gap between early and late varieties. Its strength lies in its ability to adapt to varying light and temperature conditions without compromising its structural integrity. While it requires strict adherence to temperature protocols during forcing to ensure optimal stem length, the payback is a consistent, marketable harvest. It is the ideal choice for those who prioritize a low-risk, high-impact aesthetic in their floral portfolio, proving that you don't have to sacrifice beauty for botanical toughness.
