Tulip Surprise

Status and Origins

The 'Surprise' tulip is a quintessential representative of Darwin hybrids, a category that has remained the industry standard for commercial cut-flower production for decades. This variety inherits the robust architecture and environmental adaptability of its ancestors, establishing it as a reliable asset for professional horticultural operations.

Botanical Profile and Aesthetics

The visual impact of 'Surprise' is built upon a striking interplay of colors: petals display a saturated red base with delicate lilac undertones. This palette allows the variety to stand out in large-scale plantings while maintaining an elegant appearance when cut. Its classification as a tall variety ensures excellent structural integrity and post-harvest durability.

Technical Advantages

• Disease Resistance: The variety boasts strong inherent resistance to Tobacco Mosaic Virus and Cladosporium, significantly reducing the reliance on aggressive fungicide programs.
• Growth Cycle: As a mid-season bloomer, it fits perfectly into production schedules designed to target peak market demand.
• Production Reliability: Darwin hybrids are historically favored for their high bulb propagation rates, making 'Surprise' a cost-effective choice for long-term cultivation.

In the contemporary tulip market, 'Surprise' occupies the segment of a dependable 'workhorse.' It is selected not for fleeting exoticism, but for the consistent yield of high-quality stems with predictable height and color saturation. It is an ideal investment for growers who prioritize production profitability and greenhouse phytosanitary security.
