Tulip Okura

Technical Profile of the Okura Tulip

The Okura tulip is a representative of the Darwin hybrid category, a class engineered for high vitality and environmental resilience. Its biological mechanism is optimized for late-season blooming, allowing the plant to reach its peak development as soil temperatures stabilize, effectively mitigating the risks associated with late spring frosts.

Structural Features and Performance Metrics

• Genetic Lineage: As a Darwin hybrid, Okura benefits from a robust root system and high bulblet multiplication rates. This genetic profile ensures sufficient energy reserves for rapid stem elongation and high-quality floral formation.
• Color Stability: The intense orange pigment is highly resistant to photodegradation. The cellular structure of the petals effectively reflects UV rays, maintaining saturation throughout the extended flowering period.
• Structural Integrity: The medium-height stem is characterized by a high lignin content, which provides structural rigidity. This engineering of the vascular tissue prevents lodging, ensuring the plant remains upright even in wind-prone environments.

The practical application of the Okura variety is defined by its strategic role in late-spring landscapes, filling the gap after earlier cultivars have entered dormancy. Its metabolic adaptability makes it a versatile choice for both open-field cultivation and controlled forcing environments. Success with this hybrid relies on proper storage conditions during the pre-planting phase to preserve the physiological potential of the bulb.
