Peony Brigantina

A Majestic Feature for Your Garden

The 'Brigantina' tree peony, developed by the experts at Lomonosov Moscow State University under the guidance of Marianna Uspenskaya, is the perfect choice for those seeking architectural elegance rather than just seasonal blooms. Unlike herbaceous peonies, this variety forms a sturdy, woody shrub that becomes more impressive over the years, resembling a small ornamental tree.

Planting and Care Essentials

The most important thing for any 'Brigantina' owner to understand is that this plant strictly avoids waterlogged roots. High-quality drainage is critical during planting. If your soil is heavy or clay-like, be sure to place a layer of gravel or crushed brick at the bottom of the planting hole. Tree peonies are conservative—they dislike frequent transplanting, so select a permanent, sunny spot protected from strong winds right from the start.

• Lighting: The ideal setting is half a day in bright sunlight, followed by light afternoon shade. This extends the flowering period and helps maintain the vibrancy of the petals.
• Watering: Moderation is key to health. Water at the base, avoiding the foliage to prevent fungal diseases.
• Winter Hardiness: The variety is well-adapted, but in the first years after planting, pay extra attention to young shoots—a light cover will help the plant survive harsh frosts without losing flower buds.

The 'Brigantina' from the Lomonosov Moscow State University requires minimal maintenance when positioned correctly. Its ornamental value lasts throughout the entire season: starting with delicate foliage, followed by large, iconic blooms, and even in autumn, the shrub retains a noble appearance through its changing leaf colors.
