Plastun Volynskyi — this is a winter triticale variety, developed jointly by the Institute of Plant Physiology named after V.Ya. Yuryev of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences and the Volyn State Agricultural Research Station, registered in 2018. This variety belongs to the lutescens type, has a medium maturity period, and plant height of 115–135 cm. It is recommended for cultivation in the Steppe, Forest-Steppe, and Polissia regions, indicating its adaptability to various climatic conditions. Plastun Volynskyi is characterized by high drought and cold resistance, making it a reliable choice for farmers in areas with unstable weather conditions.
The variety demonstrates high resistance to lodging, rated 8 points, ensuring yield maintenance even under adverse weather conditions. The grain is oval-shaped, well-filled, with a 1000-grain weight ranging from 41–45 g. Protein content in the grain is 12.8–14.5%, and raw gluten content is 24–28%, ensuring high milling and baking qualities. Gluten deformation index (IDK) equals 65 units, flour strength — 180 units, and bread volume without improvers reaches 620 ml. The overall baking quality of the variety is rated 8.5 points, indicating its universal suitability in the food industry.
The potential grain yield of Plastun Volynskyi reaches 10.0 t/ha, while green mass yield — 50.0 t/ha. To achieve maximum yields, it is recommended to sow the variety after pea, perennial grasses, or corn for silage. Optimal sowing dates and seeding rate of 4.2–5.0 million/ha ensure effective use of agronomic practices. Meanwhile, according to research conducted on the experimental-demonstration plot of the Institute of Plant Physiology named after V.Ya. Yuryev, Plastun Volynskyi showed lower resistance to lodging after prolonged forced rest compared to other triticale varieties, which should be considered when planning crop rotations and agronomic practices.
