Description Faktor
Triticale is an artificially bred hybrid of rye and wheat, combining the best qualities of both cereal crops. It was first created in 1888 by the German breeder Wilhelm Rimpau and has since gained widespread use due to its high yield, disease resistance, and adaptability to soil and climatic conditions. Triticale is distinguished by the high biological value of its grain, high protein content, and essential amino acids such as valine, lysine, threonine, arginine, and glycine. Additionally, the grain contains significant amounts of macro- and microelements, including copper, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, zinc, manganese, and iron, as well as B-complex vitamins and vitamin E. The caloric content of triticale is lower than that of rye and wheat, making it a beneficial product for healthy nutrition.

This crop is widely used in agriculture as both a grain and forage crop. Green mass, grain, and fodder triticale are used to feed poultry, pigs, and cattle, ensuring significant increases in animal live weight. Due to its late heading, green triticale mass serves as an important feed during the interval between winter and perennial crop harvests. In addition to its use as feed, triticale is used to produce starch, brewing malt, and bioethanol — an environmentally friendly fuel. In baking and confectionery industries, triticale flour is prized for its slightly sweet taste, light nutty aroma, creamy color, and low content of low-quality gluten, which allows for the production of fluffy, long-lasting baked goods.

Compared to wheat and rye, triticale offers several advantages: higher frost resistance (critical freezing temperature -18...-20°C), better tolerance to saline soils, increased resistance to fungal diseases and pests, and the ability to self-pollinate. Plants recover more quickly and effectively after winter thaws and ice cover. Despite some difficulties in milling and weaker grain performance, triticale remains a profitable and promising crop due to its high nutritional and agronomic characteristics.
