Tomato Shans

Working with 'Chance' (Shans) Tomato

When choosing a variety for commercial production, the focus shifts from photos on the packaging to real field economics. 'Chance' by the Russian brand 'Sedek' is a tool designed for growers who prioritize yield-per-hectare efficiency. Maturing in 90-100 days, this variety delivers fruits weighing over 200 grams, making it a competitive player in the fresh market segment.

Yield and Disease Management

The manufacturer claims a yield potential of 160-190 tons, and in practical terms, the variety delivers robust results when standard agricultural practices are followed. For any grower, disease is the biggest cost driver. 'Chance' offers genetic resistance to Verticillium wilt, as well as high tolerance to Alternaria and various rots. This naturally reduces the need for constant chemical treatment, allowing for a more cost-effective production cycle.

Logistics and Market Appeal

Getting the harvest to the customer without significant loss is the true challenge. These red, round-to-flat fruits are surprisingly durable. With 4 to 6 chambers, they possess excellent transportability, holding up well in crates even during long-distance shipping. Their uniform appearance simplifies sorting, while the size is consistent with standard market requirements for large-scale production.
