Fodder beet Akela RZ

A Reliable Choice for Professional Storage

When selecting beetroot seeds, Rijk Zwaan's "Akela RZ" is the go-to option for growers who want to avoid surprises during harvest or storage. The result is consistently high: the roots are uniform in size, which is critical for automated sorting and packaging lines.

Field Performance and Harvest

The 100–110 day maturity cycle allows for efficient harvest planning. The roots feature a classic round shape, which is the industry standard for retail chains. A standout characteristic for growers is the lack of internal rings; the flesh is uniform, dark, and deep in color without light-colored zones. This not only enhances visual appeal but also adds significant value for processors.

• Versatility: The hybrid performs equally well for early-season bunching and main-season autumn harvests.
• Storage Stability: Thanks to its genetic profile, the roots maintain density and commercial quality well into the spring, provided the storage temperature is managed correctly.
• Uniform Germination: With proper seeding and irrigation protocols, the crop provides consistent stand density, reducing the need for manual thinning and labor-intensive maintenance.

From an agronomic perspective, "Akela RZ" is a robust "workhorse" that forgives minor technical errors but fully reveals its yield potential under optimal care. We recommend this hybrid to those who prioritize high-grade commercial output with minimal waste percentages.
