Fodder beet Loma RZ

Why Loma RZ is the top choice for industrial processing

When it comes to commercial beet production, the selection criteria are straightforward: yield, disease resistance, and crop uniformity. The "Loma RZ" hybrid from the Dutch breeder Rijk Zwaan meets these standards consistently. It is a crop that offers a high level of operational reliability, ensuring marketable yields even when conditions are not perfect.

Agronomic performance and resistance

For an agronomist, working with Loma RZ is about predictability. Throughout the season, this hybrid shows strong resistance to Cercospora leaf spot and powdery mildew. In many cases, this reduces the need for frequent fungicide applications, allowing the crop to maintain a healthy leaf canopy until harvest. This efficiency helps optimize field management costs and logistics.

Processing and industrial advantages

The cylindrical shape of the roots is a major advantage for automated processing lines, reducing waste during peeling and slicing. For processors, the real value lies in the internal quality: a deep, uniform dark-red color with no light rings. This guarantees a high yield of high-quality finished product, whether it is for canning or vacuum-packed beets. High dry matter and sugar content make it an excellent raw material for juice production and salad mixes.

Long-term storage reliability

Loma RZ is well-regarded for its storage potential. Under proper storage conditions, the roots maintain their firmness and resist decay, allowing producers to extend the marketing or processing window well into spring without quality degradation. This flexibility allows for better market timing when price conditions are most favorable.
