Gudwin is a confectionery sunflower hybrid developed by the V.Ya. Yuryev Institute of Plant Growing of NAAN and registered in 2018. It is recommended for cultivation in the Forest-Steppe and Steppe zones of Ukraine. The plant is medium-early, with a vegetation period of 115–119 days and a height of 165–175 cm. The head is convex, with a diameter of 21–25 cm, which contributes to a high yield of large-seed fraction.
The hybrid is characterized by high yield potential — up to 4.8 t/ha, and on demonstration plots of the Institute of Plant Growing, the yield reached 3.5 t/ha. The recommended seeding rate is 25,000 plants per hectare. Seeds have high oil content (46.4%) and protein content of 19.8%. Hull content is up to 25.2%, and 1000-seed mass reaches 100.3 g. Gudwin has excellent taste qualities, making it in demand in the confectionery industry.
The hybrid is resistant to major diseases and stresses: tolerant to six races of the sunflower moth (A–F), Phomopsis, Fusarium, as well as to stem and head rot. It shows high resistance to lodging and shattering, and possesses good drought tolerance. Seed production features include sowing maternal and paternal components in two seasons with different row ratios for hybridization, ensuring stable seed quality.
