Sugar beet BUGGY

BUGGY is a one-suckered diploid hybrid sugar beet (Beta vulgaris L. ssp. vulgaris var. saccharifera Alef.) on a sterile base, intended for cultivation in various regions, including the Central-Black-Earth, North-Caucasus, and Ural regions. This hybrid is characterized by a technologically convenient root shape and a vegetative period of 140-145 days, ensuring high productivity and ease of harvest.

The average yield of roots in the Rostov region reaches 391 centners per hectare, with a single root weighing about 508 grams. Sugar content ranges from 17.6% to 21%, allowing for high sugar collection — up to 69.5 centners per hectare. The hybrid demonstrates moderate resistance to root rots and slight Cercospora infection in the North-Caucasus region, but in the Central-Black-Earth region, it may be susceptible to powdery mildew and root nematode.

To successfully cultivate sugar beet BUGGY, it is important to ensure optimal conditions for germination and growth: seeds begin to germinate at temperatures from +5°C, with 13-15°C considered optimal. It is also necessary to consider that insufficient light negatively affects the sugar content and yield of plants. Thanks to its characteristics and adaptation to various climatic conditions, the hybrid BUGGY is a promising choice for sugar production.
