Spinach Blobfish

Consistent Yields Under High-Pressure Conditions

When producing spinach at scale, managing disease pressure—especially downy mildew—is the primary operational challenge. This variety shows exceptional resistance to key pathogens, proving its worth in high-humidity environments where others often fail.

Agronomic Traits and Harvest Quality

The most immediate characteristic when scouting the field is the deep, intense dark green color of the leaves. For the fresh market, this is non-negotiable for grade-A quality. The leaf density is ideal; it is robust yet crisp, which makes mechanical harvesting much more efficient.

Operational Insights

• Growth Predictability: The crop develops uniformly, allowing for precise harvest scheduling. Avoid the common issue of erratic growth spurts that lead to over-maturation and quality loss.
• Processing Performance: The dark green pigment remains stable even after washing, which is essential for pre-packaged "baby-leaf" lines where color consistency is the key to consumer retention.

Working with Rijk Zwaan genetics, the main benefit is predictability. Blobfish is a high-performing hybrid that is forgiving of minor agronomic inconsistencies, ensuring a consistent yield per hectare. If your goal is to minimize risk and maximize the market value of your spinach rotation, this variety is an essential asset.
