Spinach Puma

Stable spinach yield: the potential of the Puma hybrid

The Puma spinach hybrid, developed by the Dutch breeding company Rijk Zwaan, is a professional solution for those who prioritize product quality and marketability. In the leaf vegetable segment, the choice of a hybrid often determines profitability: growers need not only volume but leaves that retain turgor and maintain an appealing color after transport.

Key advantages

• Visual superiority: The intense dark green color of the leaves makes the product stand out on supermarket shelves and in "baby leaf" mixtures.
• Genetic protection: Resistance to downy mildew (Peronospora) is a critical factor for cultivation in high-humidity conditions. This reduces the need for fungicide treatments and minimizes the risk of crop loss.
• Efficiency: Thanks to Rijk Zwaan's breeding standards, the hybrid demonstrates excellent plant uniformity, which simplifies mechanized harvesting.

Puma is perfectly suited for large-scale industrial cultivation oriented toward the fresh market and processing. The hybrid shows high adaptability to various light conditions, though it performs best when optimal irrigation and nutrient management are maintained.

When comparing Puma to typical market alternatives, the focus here is on the balance between growth rates and leaf density. Unlike some early-maturing varieties that tend to overgrow and lose density under minimal stress, Puma maintains its quality for longer, providing farmers with a wider window for harvesting.
