Description RF723
RF723 — a sorghum silage grain hybrid intended for multi-purpose use in animal feeding, including silage, silageage, pellets, and carnage. This hybrid is characterized by high protein content from 10 to 14% and starch within 76–80%, which ensures nutrition and promotes increased milk yield and meat gain in cattle. A feature of the variety is resistance to abnormal drought and pests, such as the corn borer, which guarantees stable production indicators even under unfavorable weather conditions. Low lignin content (around 3%) due to the presence of the BMR gene improves feed quality and its digestibility. The hybrid is characterized by a powerful stem part with a height from 300 to 400 cm and a moderate tillering coefficient, which contributes to high yield. Leaves are wide, dark green, grain is brown with a mass of 1000 seeds of about 22 g, contains tannin. The vegetative period is 125-130 days, and the period from germination to head emergence is 80-85 days. RF723 is resistant to such diseases as sclerotinia, helminthosporiosis, ergot, grain mold, as well as lodging, which increases the reliability of cultivation and crop quality. For optimal growing, row spacing of 45-70 cm and sowing rate from 160 to 250 thousand seeds per hectare are recommended depending on conditions. The potential yield of the hybrid reaches 1200-1400 centners per hectare, with an average yield within 900-1200 centners. Grain quality is characterized by protein content of about 11.5%, starch 68%, and fat 3.5%, while juice content in the plant reaches 18-19%, which makes RF723 a universal and highly effective feed sorghum for various directions of animal husbandry and biotechnology.
