Sorghum Silosne 42

Reliable Silage Production in Challenging Climates

The «Silosne 42» sorghum variety, developed by the Institute of Grain Crops of the NAAS, is a proven choice for farms seeking a balance between nutritional value and crop resilience. In regions with unstable precipitation, this hybrid demonstrates high adaptability, allowing farmers to cover roughage shortages even during particularly arid summers.

Agronomic Profile and Growing Season

This variety features a flexible maturation period (100 to 130 days, depending on the climatic zone and heat units), allowing for precise harvest planning based on seasonal requirements. The plants reach a height of 180–200 cm, producing the substantial leaf mass necessary for high-quality silage.

• Phytosanitary Reliability: A key advantage is its resistance to smut diseases, including head smut. This significantly reduces fungicide costs and minimizes the risk of yield loss during the grain-filling stage.
• Operational Efficiency: The dark-brown grain is rich in nutrients, which increases the energy density of the resulting silage.

Practical Application in Crop Rotation

The primary role of «Silosne 42» is to provide livestock operations with a high-quality forage base. Thanks to its stalk height and leafiness, it is ideal for silage harvesting at the milk-wax stage. Farm experience demonstrates that using this hybrid helps optimize machinery deployment during harvest, as the extended vegetation period allows for staged field operations.

This variety is highly sought after by producers looking to lower the cost of livestock production: sorghum requires significantly less moisture than corn while maintaining high yields of green mass per hectare.
