Kadan 19 — a mid-season sorghum-sudan hybrid variety developed by the Institute of Grain Husbandry of NAAN of Ukraine. It is intended for cultivation in the forest-steppe zone and is distinguished by high drought resistance, enabling stable yields even under adverse climatic conditions. The plant reaches a height of 220–231 cm, has good leafiness (43–45%) and stem thickness of 9–11 mm at 15 cm height, ensuring its resistance to lodging and shattering.
The yield of green mass at two cuttings ranges from 61 to 68 t/ha, making this variety one of the high-yielding ones. Kadan 19 is used for producing green fodder, hay, and silage, and is also suitable for grain production. The grain is elliptical in shape, brown-red in color, and large in size, with a 1000-grain weight of 24–26 g.
The variety possesses good agronomic characteristics, including high resistance to stress situations, making it popular among agricultural producers. It responds well to irrigation and fertilization, further enhancing yield and product quality. Thanks to these features, Kadan 19 is a versatile and reliable choice for cultivation in forest-steppe conditions.
