Radish Dobrinya

Reliable late-season radish production

The «Dobrynia» radish, developed by the Kyiv Research Station of the Institute of Vegetables and Melons (UAAS), is a strategic choice for growers planning to extend the harvest season. With a maturity period of 70–80 days, this late-ripening variety captures the market demand long after early-season radishes have been cleared.

Superior plant immunity and field performance

The true value of «Dobrynia» lies in its robust genetic resistance, which simplifies plant protection strategies for the farm. In conditions of high moisture or heavy pathogen pressure, the variety maintains commercial quality by resisting several critical threats:

• Bacterial wilt: the roots retain their firmness and internal structure even under stress.
• Viral resilience: it shows effective resistance to various viral mosaic strains, ensuring consistent marketable yields in fields with historical disease pressure.
• Fungal protection: genetic resistance to rusts and smut infections significantly reduces the need for heavy chemical fungicide application, optimizing production costs.

Operational use in agriculture

Farmers incorporate «Dobrynia» into their crop rotation to stabilize supply for late-season market requirements. It is well-adapted to the shortening daylight hours and cooling night temperatures characteristic of late summer and autumn planting. The roots are remarkably resistant to pithiness (becoming woody) and maintain a crisp, succulent texture even when harvest is slightly delayed.

For farm management, this variety offers a distinct advantage in logistics. Its excellent post-harvest shelf life makes it a preferred option for operations focused on retail supply chains that require storage stability. The variety's low tendency to bolt when managed correctly allows for precise harvest scheduling, mitigating risks of quality loss and ensuring a reliable supply of fresh radish late into the season.
