Radish Brutus

Stable yields in off-seasons: the Brutus radish potential

Selecting a hybrid for commercial radish production often involves balancing ripening speed with disease resistance. German seed specialist Deutsche Saatveredelung offers a strategic solution with the cylindrical variety "Brutus," designed specifically for professional spring and autumn cropping cycles.

Agrotechnological advantages

The core value of Brutus for the agronomist lies in its reliability. With a growth period of 30 to 35 days, this hybrid allows for precise scheduling of produce deliveries. Supported by the genetic base provided by originators DSV and ILVO, the plant effectively resists a complex of diseases that typically devastate crops under unstable humidity and temperature conditions:

• Cladosporium (olive spot);
• Powdery mildew;
• Various viral mosaics.

Resistance to viruses is critical during the autumn season when vector insect pressure is at its peak. By choosing Brutus, growers reduce the necessity for intensive fungicide applications, positively impacting the production cost-efficiency.

Commercial form and handling

The cylindrical shape of the root makes this variety an ideal choice for bunching. Unlike round varieties, Brutus offers better visual volume for the same weight, a distinct advantage for supermarket retail. The root remains firm and is not prone to rapid cavity formation, even if harvest is delayed by 2–3 days due to adverse weather conditions.

For agricultural businesses, this variety serves as a "fail-safe" tool: the consistent performance during short daylight hours (autumn) and rapid harvest cycles at the start of the season (spring) address the primary market requirements for high-quality root crops.
