Morphological features and development

The key innovation here is the cylindrical root shape. Unlike globe-shaped varieties, the Stinger cylinder provides a larger surface area, allowing the plant to distribute accumulated nutrients more evenly. The marketable weight of 50–100 grams makes this variety an ideal choice for the fresh market, where producers need a heavy and uniform product.

Genetic defense against pathogens

The engineering behind the variety’s immunity relies on a multi-level protection system. Stinger does not just demonstrate tolerance to a range of diseases; it possesses an established genetic barrier against:

• Peronospora (downy mildew), which is critical in high-humidity or summer rainfall conditions;
• Cucumber mosaic virus, transmitted by aphids;
• Bacteriosis, often causing root decay during soil waterlogging.

In practical terms, this reduces the need for chemical intervention. Farmers do not have to perform frequent fungicide applications to control powdery mildew, anthracnose, or cladosporiosis, as the variety has built-in mechanisms to suppress these pathogens. With a maturation period of 40–50 days, it allows for efficient harvest scheduling, providing predictable results in mid-summer when other varieties are frequently susceptible to viral infections.
