Winter wheat soft variety Stalova is a high-yielding and versatile fifth-generation variety developed by individual selection from hybrids of the varieties Shestopalivka, Myronivska-808, Bezosta-1 and Odeska-83. This variety is characterized by record-breaking resistance to lodging, allowing it to maintain yields up to 10 tons per hectare without shattering or seed germination at the root. Stalova has enhanced winter hardiness and cold resistance, as well as comprehensive resistance to all major diseases of winter wheat, making it particularly valuable for cultivation in the forest-steppe zone of Ukraine and other ecological conditions, including irrigation.
Plants of this variety have a height of 75-85 cm and a semi-erect habit. The ear is of medium length (10-12 cm), cylindrical in shape, of medium density, containing approximately 24 spikelets per 10 cm of stem. The ear is covered with a distinct waxy coating, which becomes white and non-shattering upon ripening. The stem is hollow, thick, and strong; leaves are large, green, with a strong waxy coating and no pubescence. The grain is large, egg-shaped, red in color, with a 1000-grain weight of 55-60 grams. The grain belongs to the group of strong wheats, containing approximately 16% protein and 32% gluten, which ensures high flour strength (480 standard units) and excellent baking qualities, with bread volume up to 1170 cm³ and an overall score of 9 points.
The vegetation period of the variety lasts 260-275 days with ultra-early heading and early ripening. The wintering period lasts about 20 days. Sowing rate varies from 3.5 to 5 million germinating seeds per hectare (160-190 kg), depending on moisture conditions. The average yield over three years of variety trials is 86.2 centners per hectare, significantly exceeding the performance of standard varieties, with the best result from state variety trials reaching 106 centners per hectare. Thanks to its high agronomic and technological characteristics, the variety Stalova is one of the leaders in yield and adaptability, recommended for intensive cultivation technologies and wide production use.
