The potato variety Pogorskiy is an early-maturing table variety of Russian selection, intended for cultivation in the Central region. Plants are of medium height, semi-upright, with open light-green leaves and white flower buds. Tubers are oval-shaped with medium-depth eyes, covered with smooth yellow skin, and the flesh is white. The weight of marketable tubers ranges from 88 to 172 grams, making the variety suitable for various cooking methods.
Pogorskiy is characterized by high yield, ranging from 201 to 351 centners per hectare, with a maximum of 370 centners. The first harvest can be obtained as early as the 45th day after emergence, allowing for early harvest. Starch content in tubers is within 11.8-13.4%, ensuring good taste and versatility in culinary applications. The potato is suitable for boiling, frying, and baking, belonging to the culinary type BC. Marketability of the variety reaches 93-97%, and storability is 97%, indicating good storage qualities.
The variety is resistant to potato cancer pathogen (pathotype I), but susceptible to golden potato cyst nematode and moderately susceptible to late blight according to data from VNIIFV. These characteristics require attention when selecting plant protection methods. Pogorskiy was developed and recommended for cultivation by Bryansk Experimental Station for Potatoes and VNIIS of Potato Farming named after A. G. Lorh, confirming its adaptation to Central region conditions and high agronomic performance.
