Marfona potato variety is a mid-early table variety with a vegetation period of 65-75 days. Tubers are oval, large, with uniform shape, light-yellow skin, and light-yellow flesh. The weight of marketable tubers ranges from 80 to 110 grams, and the number of tubers per plant varies from 8 to 16. The variety is characterized by high marketability — up to 93.95% — and yields between 180-378 centners per hectare. The taste is rated as satisfactory to good, culinary type A, making it suitable for making salads and soups.
Marfona variety has good storability — around 92% — ensuring prolonged storage without loss of quality. Plants are semi-upright, tall, with white flowers. The variety is resistant to potato scab and relatively resistant to dry and ring rot. However, it is susceptible to late blight on leaves and common potato rot, as well as infection by leaf curl virus. Resistance to black leg is moderate.
The origin of the variety is associated with the Dutch company AGRICO U.A. Marfona is valued for its high tuber uniformity and high yield of marketable product. Due to its characteristics and resistance to several diseases, this variety is a reliable choice for cultivation both on a commercial scale and in private farms.
