Potato variety Madeleine — this is a medium-early table variety of Dutch selection, intended for obtaining high yields and excellent taste qualities. Tubers have an oval shape, the average weight of one tuber ranges from 100 to 120 grams, making them attractive for sale and consumption. The vegetation period is 70-80 days, with the first harvest possible as early as the 45th day after emergence of seedlings. The flesh is light yellow, slightly softens and does not darken when cut, which is especially valued in preparing various dishes.
The Madeleine variety is characterized by high yield — up to 330 centners per hectare, and the percentage of tuber preservation reaches 95%. The potato keeps well, has smooth yellow skin and excellent flesh. It is resistant to mechanical damage, which facilitates transportation and storage. The plant is adapted to various soil-climatic conditions and prefers warm soil, light and well-drained soils.
In terms of disease resistance, Madeleine shows resistance to viruses of type A and Yn, potato scab, golden cyst-forming nematode. However, the variety is weakly resistant to common late blight, tuber phytophthora, phytophthora of foliage, and fusarium. To increase yield and protect against diseases, it is recommended to treat tubers with fungicidal-insecticidal preparations prior to planting, and also possible use of plastic mulch. Pre-sowing sprouting of tubers contributes to earlier maturation and increased yield.
