Medea

Medea potato is a medium-early table variety developed at the Institute of Potato Breeding of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine and registered in the State Register in 2021. The vegetation period ranges from 89 to 112 days, allowing for harvest at optimal times. The variety is characterized by high yield, reaching 42–45 tons per hectare, making it attractive for commercial cultivation.

The tubers of Medea potato are round in shape with a yellow skin and creamy flesh. The average weight of marketable tubers ranges from 94 to 102.8 grams. Starch content is within 12.7–15.5%, and dry matter content is 20.5–22.7%, ensuring good taste and versatility in culinary use. The consumer quality rating is 8.2 points, indicating high product quality.

The variety exhibits high resistance to major potato diseases, including macrosporiosis, phytophthora, common potato cancer, and potato cyst nematode. It also shows good resistance to viral diseases and mechanical damage. Medea has good storability and suitability for mechanical harvesting, simplifying the harvest and storage process. Recommended for cultivation in the Polissia, Forest-Steppe, and Steppe regions.
