Potato Chernihiv Souvenir

Genetic Resilience and Disease Control

The «Suvenir chernigivskiy» variety, developed by NVO «Chernigivelitkartoplya», is designed to meet the rigorous standards of modern commercial potato production. Its core strength lies in its genetic resistance profile: it provides robust immunity against potato cancer (synchytrium endobioticum) and common scab. This biological defense allows growers to reduce fungicide applications, lowering the total cost of production per hectare.

Tuber Morphology and Processing Potential

As a table potato variety, «Suvenir chernigivskiy» is tailored for both retail appeal and culinary performance:

• Shape: The round-oval shape optimizes machine harvesting and automated sorting processes.
• Skin: Light yellow (white) skin with a distinct net-like texture, which is preferred by high-end retailers.
• Flesh: Light yellow to cream, with a starch content of 14-15%. This specific starch level indicates a culinary type that maintains integrity during boiling and frying.

Field Performance and Storage

Beyond its resistance to soil-borne pathogens, the variety demonstrates significant immunity to late blight (phytophthora infestans), a critical factor in regions with erratic rainfall. By prioritizing a balance between aesthetic marketability and internal tuber composition, NVO «Chernigivelitkartoplya» has created a hybrid that excels in warehouse logistics. Its low susceptibility to bruising and internal discoloration after peeling ensures consistent quality from field to shelf, making it a reliable asset for both fresh-market producers and commercial supply chains.
