Description

The Stanley plum is a high-yielding and mid-season variety developed in the early 20th century by the American pomologist Richard Wellington. This variety arose from crossing Hungarian plum 'Ajancska' and the 'Great Duke' variety, which endowed it with unique characteristics and stable fruiting. The trees are medium-sized with a round, dense crown, exhibiting high cold resistance up to -34 degrees Celsius and disease resistance, making the variety suitable for cultivation in various climatic zones, including all regions of Ukraine. The fruits of the Stanley plum are large, weighing from 35 to 60 grams, with an egg-shaped, slightly asymmetrical form tapering at the base. The skin is thick, dense, purple-blue, almost black. The flesh is yellow, granular, medium-density, with a pleasant honey-like flavor and a subtle acidity, giving the fruits a refreshing and sweet taste. Due to their dense skin and flesh, the fruits can be stored in the refrigerator for 30-40 days, allowing for prolonged fresh consumption. The variety is versatile in use: its fruits are suitable for both fresh consumption and processing. The high yield of mature trees reaches 40-60 kg, and grafting onto apricot rootstocks promotes early and stable fruiting. Thanks to its qualities and reliability, the Stanley plum is an excellent choice for gardeners seeking delicious and climate-resistant fruits.
