Yanis

The Yanis pear is a premium autumn variety with a medium-sized tree featuring a pyramid-shaped, spreading crown. The fruits are large, weighing 180–240 grams, with an egg-shaped pear form. The skin is dense and thick, green when harvested, and turns yellowish with a blush on the sun-exposed side upon ripening. The flesh is juicy, tender, aromatic, and has an excellent flavor, making this variety especially attractive to consumers. The Yanis variety is resistant to scab and bacterial burn, significantly simplifying tree care and improving fruit quality. The variety has moderate winter hardiness, requiring certain protective measures during cold periods. The fruits store well in refrigerators, retaining their quality until April, allowing for extended use and marketing. Studies show that with rational fertilization and post-harvest treatment with 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) at 2±0.5 °C, Yanis fruits can be successfully stored for six months with a standard product yield of up to 90%. 1-MCP treatment significantly reduces losses from skin and flesh browning and decreases the incidence of fungal diseases. With excessive potassium fertilization, storage can last up to four months with high-quality fruit. Thus, the Yanis variety combines high fruit quality, disease resistance, and excellent storage performance, making it advantageous for cultivation and marketing.
