Description

The Kucherianka pear variety is a winter, high-yielding variety developed at the Dnepropeets Experimental Station by crossing 'Olivier de Serr' and 'Nikolai Kryuger'. The tree is of medium height with a broad, pyramidal crown, characterized by winter hardiness and resistance to scab and bacterial burn. The variety is early-bearing: on quince rootstock, fruiting begins as early as the 2nd-3rd year after planting, and on seedling rootstock — from the 3rd-4th year. A mature tree can yield up to 15-21 kg, with lower crown branches requiring bending for better development. The fruits are large, weighing from 220 to 300 grams, with a broad pear-shaped form and wavy or slightly bumpy surface. The skin is medium-thick; during harvest, it is light green, and at consumer maturity — yellow with a slight golden and pinkish blush on the sun-exposed side. The flesh is dense, white or cream-colored, oily, tender, juicy, and aromatic, with a pleasant sweet taste and mild acidity. The fruits remain firmly attached to the branches, ensuring good transportability and storage quality. Harvesting occurs at the end of September — October, while consumer maturity arrives in early December. The pears store well under cool conditions for up to three months, retaining their appearance and flavor, and can be kept until March in refrigerators. The variety is resistant to pests and adverse conditions, making it suitable for both private gardens and commercial cultivation.
