Practical Experience with the «Borey» Pear Variety by FANCA

If you are looking for a variety that doesn't demand round-the-clock agronomic attention, the «Borey» pear is a solid contender. Working with nursery stock from FANCA, we found it highly stable in temperate zones. The medium-growth tree is easy to prune and shape, avoiding the overgrowth issues often seen in more vigorous cultivars.

Maintenance and Disease Resistance

The primary concern for any pear grower is scab and fire blight. In this regard, «Borey» shows excellent resistance. We observed minimal scab damage even during seasons with high humidity levels. Its resistance to fruit rot is also notable, which significantly lowers the cost of pre-harvest fungicide applications. However, keep in mind its frost tolerance; with a threshold of -25°C, it is best planted in sites protected from cold drafts.

Harvest and Storage

«Borey» produces classic summer pears, perfect for immediate consumption. These yellow-green fruits, weighing under 120g, are ideal for direct sale or fresh consumption. The flesh is juicy and soft, with a distinct sweet-and-sour profile and a pleasant aroma. Please note: the storage life is relatively short (less than a month), so a «tree-to-table» distribution strategy is essential. This is not a long-term storage variety.
