Pectoral

Pectoral is an early winter pear variety distinguished by high productivity and excellent taste qualities. It features a medium-height tree with a broad crown and moderate branching, facilitating ease of care and fruit harvesting. Leaves are oval-shaped with a tapering tip, characteristic of this variety. Pectoral was developed in 1977 by breeders I.N. Maximov, L. Tolstolik, and T.I. Krasulya through crossing varieties Bere Clergeau and Olivier da Ser.

Fruits of this variety are large, weighing 250–300 grams, with a symmetrical pear shape. The skin is green-yellow with a bright red blush on one side, giving them an attractive appearance. The flesh is sweet, juicy, and highly aromatic, confirmed by high taster ratings—4.5 out of 5 points. Fruit ripening begins in early September, allowing for both fresh consumption and long-term storage.

The Pectoral variety is characterized by cold resistance and disease resistance, making it suitable for cultivation in various climatic conditions, including Ukraine. When properly stored in a cool place or refrigerator, fruits can retain their quality for up to six months, a significant advantage for gardeners and consumers valuing long-term storage and high-quality fruit.
