Sort (Welsh x Antonovka common) with winter-ripening fruit, obtained at the All-Russian Research Institute of Fruit Crop Selection from hybridization in 1959. Author: E. N. Sedov.
The sort was accepted for State Testing in the Middle Belt of Russia in 1979 and was included in the State Register of Selection Achievements for the Central Chernozem region in 1997.
Trees are tall. In young age, the crown is inversely pyramidal, and during fruiting — spherical, moderately dense. Main branches emerge from the trunk at a sharp angle. Fruit-bearing is concentrated, mainly on spurs.
Shoots are fairly thick, straight, with frequent leaf arrangement, brown-cherry-colored, with large white stipules. Buds are medium-sized, pressed, conical. Leaves are medium-sized, elongated, with narrowed (often wedge-shaped) base, dark green, leathery, with wrinkled surface, shiny, many raised upward. Margin is wavy, tip is sharp, elongated, bent downward. Leaf margin serration is doubly or triply toothed, teeth are pointed. Petiole is long, medium thickness, hairy, with anthocyanin coloration extending to the central vein of the leaf. Stipules are large, lanceolate, equal, approximately 1/2 the length of the petiole.
Flowers are large, light pink, almost flat, in buds — dark pink with purple tinge, petals overlapping, with slightly raised edges, stigma level with stamens.
Fruits are medium-sized, with correct flattened shape, with weakly expressed blunt ribs. Skin is strong, dry, rough, dull. Main fruit color at harvest maturity is golden-yellow, with a covering color of beet-red stripes and specks on most of the fruit. Under-skin spots are gray, weakly visible. Pit is narrow, acute-conical, without rust. Pedicel is thin, medium or short, curved, often twisted. Receptacle is wide, lobed. Calyx is large, closed. Seed cavity is medium-sized, in the form of a bulb. Seed chambers are closed or slightly open. Seeds are small, egg-shaped, light-brown. Sub-calyx tube is cylindrical or conical.
Flesh is white, with greenish tinge, sometimes with pink veins, tender, juicy, finely textured, pleasantly sweet-tart taste.
Fruits are light. Taste evaluation (4.4-4.6 points). Chemical composition of the fruit: total sugar content — 10.9%, titratable acids — 0.48%, ascorbic acid content — 8.4 mg/100g, total P-active substances — 154 mg/100g, pectin substances — 10.0%.
Harvest maturity in the Oryol region occurs in the second decade of September. Consumer period lasts from October to February. The sort is characterized by good and regular yield, moderate winter hardiness, resistance to scab on fruits and leaves.
Advantages of the sort: resistance to scab, high consumer qualities of fruit, good yield.
Disadvantages of the sort: relatively late entry into fruiting period.
