Description Cathedral
Summer variety selected by the Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K. A. Timiryazev, obtained by crossing seedling 32-67 (Tema Ch Lesnaya Krasavitsa) with 72-43 (Dyushes Bedro Ch Lesnaya Krasavitsa). Breeders: S. T. Chizhov, S. P. Potapov. Approved for the Central region.

Medium-sized tree with a conical, moderately dense crown. Main branches are straight, sparsely arranged, with upward-pointing tips; bark smooth and gray. Predominant fruiting type — simple rings, fruits set on one-year shoots.

Shoots are medium, straight, slightly curved, round, reddish-brown, slightly hairy; buds large, broad-conical, curved, hairy. Leaves are large and medium-sized, green, oval, moderately pointed, smooth, glossy, with coarse venation. Leaf blade is concave, strongly curved upward, hairless, with fine serrated edges.
Flowers are large, medium-cup-shaped, white, with oval petals.

Fruits are medium or smaller than average in size, weighing 110 g, with a regular pear shape and a warty surface. Skin is tender, smooth, slightly oily, glossy. Main color at harvest is greenish-yellow, becoming light-yellow at consumer ripeness; covering color is weak, diffuse, red. Under-skin dots are numerous, barely noticeable, green and gray. Peduncle is medium length, slightly curved. No cavity, no rust. Seed cavity is small, rhomboid, chambers small and closed; calyx tube long, funnel-shaped. Seeds are medium and small, egg-shaped, dark brown.
Flesh is white, medium density, tender, semi-oily, fine-grained, juicy, with a tart-sweet flavor and moderate aroma; taste rating 4.0 points. Visual appeal rating 4.2-4.3 points. Fruits contain 16.0% dry matter, 8.5% sugars, 0.3% acids.

Fruits ripen in early August, and can be stored for 8-12 days. Fruit transportability is moderate. This variety is suitable for fresh consumption, as well as for making compotes and dried fruits.
The variety is early-bearing, with annual fruiting. Average yield is 85 centners per hectare.
Winter hardiness is high. In winter 1978-1979, frost damage was recorded at 1.0-1.5 points. Resistant to scab.

Advantages of the variety: early fruit ripening, high winter hardiness, resistance to scab.

Disadvantages of the variety: medium or smaller than average fruit size.
