The ORLUS pea variety is a mid-season, high-yielding variety with intensive plant development and high adaptation to various climatic conditions. Plants reach a height of 50 to 114 cm, have light green stems, and a hairy leaf type with well-developed stipules. Seeds are yellow, round-angular in shape with a smooth surface; the mass of 1000 seeds ranges from 198 to 270 g. Pods are of a shelling type, slightly curved with a blunt tip; the number of pods per plant ranges from 5 to 10. The variety is characterized by rapid initial growth and the ability to quickly close the soil, which contributes to efficient use of the sown area.
ORLUS is characterized by high yield, which in various regions ranges from 17.8 to 34.7 centners/hectare. A distinctive feature of the variety is a very high protein content in the grain — from 24.15% to 26.21%, making it particularly valuable for the production of protein products. Seed coat thickness is about 9.6%, which facilitates their processing and use. The variety is resistant to lodging and suitable for direct combine harvesting, which simplifies harvest collection and increases its efficiency.
The ORLUS pea variety is resistant to shattering and cracking, however, it is susceptible to certain diseases such as fusarium, ascochitis, rust, root rots, anthracnose, and powdery mildew. It is recommended for cultivation in various regions, including the Oryol and Rostov regions, Krasnodar and Stavropol krais, as well as steppe, forest-steppe, and forest-steppe zones. Due to its quality characteristics and adaptability, the ORLUS variety is a promising choice for agricultural production.
