Onion YURZHEK

High-yield potential for commercial onion production

The «Yurzhek» onion variety is engineered for farms focusing on high-volume production of salad-type onions. Developed by the Federal Research Center for Rice, this variety is characterized by rapid maturity and intensive output. With a yield potential exceeding 100 tons per hectare, it serves as a robust tool for maximizing land productivity and seasonal revenue.

Key Operational Advantages

• Fast-track maturation: A growing period of up to 90 days allows producers to schedule planting cycles strategically to capture market opportunities when demand for fresh produce is at its peak.
• Market-ready sizing: With an average bulb weight of 80–90 grams, the product is perfectly calibrated for retail packaging and commercial supply chains, which prioritize uniform, medium-sized bulbs.
• Extended storage capability: Despite its salad-type classification, «Yurzhek» retains its quality for 6–7 months post-harvest. This provides producers with significant logistical flexibility, allowing them to hold inventory until market prices become more favorable.

In field operations, the variety exhibits high uniformity, facilitating efficient mechanical harvesting and reducing labor costs. The light-brown skin provides excellent presentation for the consumer market. By integrating this variety into the crop rotation, agronomists can successfully bridge the gap between early-season demand and the long-term storage requirements of the wholesale market.
