Onion SHASHLYCHK

Operational insight: Cultivating 'Shashlychok' Chives

For growers focusing on the fresh-cut salad market, the 'Shashlychok' chive variety offers a predictable and profitable production cycle. Developed by Russian breeder Elizaveta Kudryavtseva, this perennial crop is optimized for long-term field use. Once established, it demonstrates excellent winter hardiness and rapid early-spring regrowth, allowing farmers to tap into the high-margin early market.

Maintenance and Yield Efficiency

In terms of field management, 'Shashlychok' is relatively low-maintenance, provided that moisture levels are monitored strictly. The fine, tender leaves are sensitive to dehydration, which directly impacts the market quality. Under optimal conditions, the crop can yield up to 50 tons per hectare, making it a highly efficient choice for commercial operations.

Harvesting Logistics

• Growth cycle: Reaches market readiness within 90 days.
• Harvest method: Exclusively manual. Hand-harvesting is essential to maintain the structural integrity of the leaves; mechanical methods would cause significant bruising and reduce sellable weight by approximately 30%.
• Market position: Highly favored by HoReCa clients due to its mild, sophisticated flavor profile, which lacks the harsh sharpness of standard bulb onions.

Choosing 'Shashlychok' means investing in a reliable asset. Its ability to regenerate rapidly after repeated cuttings ensures consistent throughput, maximizing the utility of the planted area throughout the season.
