Onion Sharm

Chives "Sharm": Reliable perennial greens for your garden

If you are looking for a crop that combines aesthetic appeal with practical utility, the "Sharm" variety of chives is an excellent choice. Developed by the Federal Scientific Center for Vegetable Growing, this variety stands out as a perennial solution for those who want a steady supply of fresh greens without the need for annual planting.

Key Advantages of the Variety

• High Productivity: "Sharm" is known for its rapid regrowth after cutting, allowing for multiple harvests throughout the season.
• Culinary Quality: The leaves are tender and possess a mild, delicate flavor, making them a perfect addition to salads, soups, and garnishes.
• Winter Hardiness: Bred to thrive in various climatic conditions, this variety shows excellent frost resistance and adaptability to temperature fluctuations.

Why Choose "Sharm"?

This variety is optimal for both home gardeners looking for convenience and small-scale farmers aiming for a consistent early-spring market supply. Once established, "Sharm" can occupy the same spot for 5 to 7 years. Over time, it forms a dense clump that naturally suppresses weed growth, significantly reducing maintenance labor.

Strengths: Unlike annual bulb onions, "Sharm" is a perennial plant that survives the winter and starts growing as soon as the soil warms up. Points to consider: While the plant is robust, it prefers well-drained soil. In heavy or waterlogged areas, proper drainage is essential to prevent root rot. During its first year, it requires consistent weeding, but from the second year onward, it is self-sufficient and highly resilient.
