LAZHOISKIY

The Laizhoiskiy onion variety is a perennial salad leek that is distinguished by its high winter hardiness and resistance to wetting out. This variety is one of the earliest, as its greens appear immediately after the snow melts, allowing it to be used as an early substitute for green onions. Laizhoiskiy has a short rest period, making it ideal for forcing in a greenhouse or on a windowsill during the autumn-winter period. The flavor of the greens is pleasant, tender, and slightly sharp, which is appreciated in cuisine.

The leaves of the onion are dark green, tubular, 25-30 cm long and up to 1 cm wide, juicy, and covered with a weak waxy coating. The period from the beginning of leaf growth to the first harvest is about 30-40 days, during which 2-3 harvests can be made per season. To improve the flavor qualities of the plant, it is recommended to mound it with chopped straw or fallen leaves, which promotes the formation of a shortened whitened "foot." After each harvest, it is advisable to fertilize with mineral fertilizers with a predominance of nitrogen.

Laizhoiskiy onion is sown at the end of April – beginning of May at a depth of 1.5-2 cm in loose, fertile soil with a neutral reaction. After thinning, plants are placed at intervals of 20x30 cm. Reproduction is possible by dividing the bush. The optimal temperature for growth and development is 15-20°C. Regular care is recommended, including watering, weeding, and fertilization after harvesting. On one place, the onion grows well for 4-5 years, after which the yield of greens significantly decreases.
