Onion PURPLE 5

Proven Selection from the Federal Research Center for Vegetable Growing

The 'Fioletovy 5' onion is a result of breeding efforts by the Federal Research Center for Vegetable Growing, having established a reputation as a reliable variety for amateur gardening and small-scale farming. Rather than an intensive hybrid requiring complex inputs, this is a time-tested variety valued for its predictability and consistent performance under Russian climatic conditions.

Agronomic Profile and Market Positioning

Classified as a salad-type bulb onion, the 'Fioletovy 5' is prized for its delicate, semi-sweet flavor profile, lacking the sharp pungency of storage-heavy varieties. This makes it an ideal component for fresh culinary applications. The variety lives up to its name, featuring bulbs with a distinct, deep purple skin that stands out visually in retail environments.

• Storage Life: Moderate, reaching 3–4 months, which dictates its market positioning: it is best suited for quick turnover in the first half of the season.
• Application: Primarily intended for salad use, where juiciness and flavor quality are paramount.
• Regional Adaptability: Being a product of domestic breeding, the variety shows high compatibility with regional farming techniques and fluctuating environmental conditions.

Today, 'Fioletovy 5' remains a staple choice for growers who prioritize genetic purity and consistent varietal behavior. It is an excellent option for producers focusing on culinary excellence rather than ultra-long-term shelf storage.
