Onion Emerald

Operational specifics of the 'Izumrudny' bunching onion

Selecting the 'Izumrudny' variety from the Federal Research Center for Vegetable Growing is a strategic choice for commercial greens production. From an operator's perspective, the primary benefit is its robust resistance to pink root rot, which significantly reduces the need for constant fungicide application and minimizes crop loss risks in fields with high moisture retention.

Field performance and maintenance

• Harvest Management: With a maturation cycle of up to 90 days, this variety fits perfectly into a planned production conveyor. Since the variety is harvested manually, its structure is highly optimized for performance: the leaves remain firm and crisp, allowing for precise, clean cuts without excessive wastage.
• Commercial Output: As a salad-type bunching onion, 'Izumrudny' is valued for its tender texture and absence of toughness. The variety’s resistance to premature bolting simplifies field management, ensuring a high-quality product that meets modern market standards without excessive sorting labor.
• Durability: The crop shows excellent resilience against rot, which reduces the overall maintenance burden. For the farm operator, this means fewer field interventions during rainy periods and a more consistent supply chain.

The 'Izumrudny' variety offers a reliable, low-risk solution for growers who prioritize consistency in yield and high leaf quality, ensuring efficient labor utilization during the harvest phase.
