Bolbul onion is a late-maturing winter onion variety, characterized by round bulbs and golden-colored dry scales. Fruit weight varies from 80 to 150 grams, depending on growing conditions, with white, dense, juicy flesh and a semi-sharp flavor. This variety is suitable for both fresh consumption and processing. Bolbul onion stores well and is widely used for early bulb production, making it popular among both hobbyists and professional farmers. For successful cultivation of Bolbul onion, light loamy and sandy loam soils with neutral or slightly alkaline pH are recommended, preferably fertile and well-fertilized. Seeds are sown in autumn at a recommended density of approximately 1.2 million per hectare. In early development, the onion grows slowly, with a poorly developed, shallow root system, so weed control is essential to prevent reduced productivity. In spring, the plants continue to develop, and after approximately 120-260 days, large bulbs with dense, golden-colored outer scales form. Bolbul onion exhibits genetic resistance to several diseases, enhancing its reliability in cultivation. However, it is sensitive to weed infestation and susceptible to pests such as onion fly and thrips. Among diseases, false powdery mildew (peronosporosis) is the most dangerous, especially in humid weather. Adhering to agronomic requirements and timely protection against pests and diseases enables high-quality yields of this variety.
