Braxton onion is a mid-early hybrid of bulb onion, developed by the Dutch breeding company Bejo Zaden. The vegetation period is approximately 93-110 days from emergence, allowing it to be grown in open ground under various agroclimatic conditions. The plant features strong and resilient growth, capable of forming abundant green mass even under sudden weather changes. The leaves are upright, tubular with a waxy coating, and the bulb forms early, contributing to the hybrid's early maturity. Braxton onion bulbs have round or slightly flattened shapes, weighing from 70 to 200 grams, with dense golden-brown outer scales and juicy, firm white flesh. The flavor of this mild onion is excellent, with subtle sweet notes, making it versatile for fresh consumption, culinary processing, preservation, and drying. The onion retains its attractive appearance and flavor for a long time after harvest. The Braxton hybrid is characterized by high yield and resistance to major onion diseases such as fusarium, pink rot, and downy mildew. It also shows good resistance to bolting, which increases the quality and quantity of the harvest. Thanks to its dense scales and sturdy structure, the bulbs store well for 6-8 months without significant quality loss. The hybrid's seeds have a protective coating that accelerates germination and provides protection against pests and diseases, simplifying cultivation and enhancing harvest reliability.
