BARIRES is a ryegrass variety grown in Denmark and the Netherlands under the Barenbrug brand. Seeds weigh 1 kg, with a recommended application rate of 2 kg per 100 m². The plant germinates quickly: the first signs of growth appear within 15–21 days with regular watering, and it turns green immediately after winter snow. Thanks to its good drought resistance and resistance to leaf spots, BARIRES is suitable for well-lit areas and can be used as lawn, turf, or landscape ground cover.
Under greenhouse conditions, the variety performs as a high-value grey lettuce seed. Large, round, light-green leaves, soft texture, and pleasant taste make it a popular choice for commercial lettuce production in temperate climates. Growth period is 45–55 days from sowing to harvest at optimal temperatures (18‑22 °C) and soil moisture of 60‑70 %. Yield reaches 1.2–1.5 kg/m², corresponding to 70–80 % of the norm compared to baseline varieties.
BARIRES is distinguished by resistance to powdery rust and fungal infections of moderate severity. Seeds retain germination for up to 12 months under dry conditions, and after germination only moderate care is required: temperature of 18‑20 °C and maintaining soil moisture within 60‑70 %. Thanks to high content of vitamins A, C, K and minerals (potassium, magnesium, iron), this ryegrass not only delights the eye but also provides nutritional value for consumers.
