Chinese Miscanthus is a decorative perennial grass that attracts attention with its slender vertical form and resistance to adverse conditions. The plant reaches a height of 150 to 180 centimeters and a width of about 120 centimeters, growing slowly while maintaining a compact structure. Erect stems are covered with dense bark in the upper part, while leaves are narrow-linear, stiff, rough to the touch, with a width of up to 1.5 centimeters and a length of 18 to 75 centimeters. During the summer period, the foliage is bright green, but in autumn it turns to saturated shades of yellow, brown, and burgundy, while stems acquire a copper sheen, creating picturesque contrasts.
The floristic interest of miscanthus is manifested from August to September. Lush flower panicles up to 20–36 centimeters high consist of heads 4–6.5 centimeters long. Heads can be hairy or hairless; hairs have a silky structure and a length of 5 to 8 millimeters. As the seeds mature, the color of the panicles changes from pale red to beige, giving the plant additional decorativeness.
Miscanthus is valued for its versatility in landscape design: it is excellent for lawns, ponds, and hedges, and is widely used in the creation of dry floral compositions due to the durability of flowers and leaves. The plant is frost-resistant, grows well in sunny areas, and withstands strong gusts of wind and heavy raindrops. For successful cultivation, moderate watering and good drainage are required; the plant copes perfectly with dry periods, making it an ideal choice for various climatic zones.
