Mesura F1 Watermelon — a mid-early hybrid of the 'Piel de Sapo' type, developed by the Dutch breeding company Rijk Zwaan. The period from transplanting seedlings to harvest is approximately 65-85 days, allowing cultivation both in open ground and under plastic coverings. The plant features a long-branched bush with large leaves that effectively shield the fruits from direct sunlight. Mesura F1 exhibits high adaptability to various weather conditions, including drought, heat, and heavy rains, as well as resistance to major diseases affecting cucurbits, such as necrotic spot and Fusarium wilt.
The fruits are oval-shaped with smooth green or mustard-green skin and a slight pattern. Average fruit weight ranges from 2.5 to 3 kg, with 3 to 5 fruits forming per plant. The flesh is dense, uniform, milky or white in color, with a narrow and firm seed cavity. Sugar content reaches 14-15%, ensuring excellent taste and nutritional value. A distinctive feature of the hybrid is the ability of the fruits to be stored for long periods after harvest, during which the flesh flavor even improves due to increased sugar content.
Mesura F1 watermelon is characterized by high yield and stable fruiting. Thanks to its good storability and transportability, the fruits maintain their market appearance and taste qualities even after long-distance transportation. This hybrid is suitable for fresh market sales, as well as for canning, drying, and freezing.
